EDDY LIMA
Master of the Bolivian Flute or "Quena"

The master of the quena; a professional Bolivian musician renowned worldwide for his style of interpretation of the Bolivian flute or “quena”, and his contributions to its repertoire through compositions, arrangements, teaching and construction.

A publication of the prestigious “Bolivian Times” and other editorials in South America and Europe describes him as “a founding father of the style of the contemporary Bolivian quena” (27 October 2001).

He has represented Bolivia since 1977 in International Folklore festivals, performing in South America and Europe . His instrumental themes on the Quena, recorded with folklore groups, and the virtuosity of his solo performances mean he is highly regarded in the Bolivian alternative music scene where his star deservedly shines brightly.

Born in La Paz , Bolivia ; he began playing the Quena from a very early age and while still young turned professional. He began his career in small theatres with a repertoire of Bolivian and Latin American music on the Quena.

TEACHER.

Eddy organises many quena courses teaching interpretation techniques and founded “The Quena Club” in La Paz , Bolivia with 55 students. Students from La Paz and other department capitals in Bolivia attend his courses.

LUTHIER.

Eddy makes professional, semi-professional and amateur Bolivian musical instruments. The “Eddy Lima” Quena, created by the master with its unique characteristics, is the result of 30 years of hard experimental work. It is this experience that goes into every Quena made in his factory in La Paz today.
